Contents Page Layout Preliminary

Contents page layout
This is the basics of my contents page layout, i may add more, or perhaps change the layout slightly when it comes to creating it. I may flip the image so that the picture is on the right hand side and the text on the left, it depends on the dimensions of the picture i take to be on the content. Either way i want the bottom to contain sneak pictures of what the other articles contain, made up of other images I've taken.

Camera Choice Research

Camera Choice Research
Because I will be using a DSLR type 40 Nikon I did some research to find out how to use it properly. I watched a tutorial video online so I could learn how to use one properly when I come to watching the video. From this video I learned how to change the shutter speed, the aperture and the different settings for various shots I'll be taking. This will help me get the best outcome from my pictures.

Camera Choice

Camera Choice
Ill be using a Nikon DSLR type 40 camera to take my image I will be putting on my front cover. This camera isn't the most to date camera however it's a compact, point-and-shoot digital SLR from Nikon, with a subtly different feature set which I can use to take my high quality, sharp focus images I will need for my magazine cover, contents page and 2 page spread covers.

In Design Research

In Desgin Research
I watched this In Design YouTube tutorial to help me research how to use In Design properly for my final project. I need to use In Design for my final project to layout all my columns and text on my Music magazine cover, contents page, and 2 page spread. In design is used for layout and design for professional leaflets and layouts which is why ill be using it for my final outcome as it'll make it look high quality and professional. I have never used In Design before and so i will need to watch videos on how to use it.

Preliminary Task Evaluation

Preliminary Task Evaluation
The cover shows a mid/close up - shot of a student in my class called Zach Addams. The Typography needs to change when i make my actual magazine as this font for the text is hard to read and so will make the actual magazine look unprofessional. I am also not happy with the font choice for the main title, as it looks generic and boring. There are a few things that i am happy with with this, such as the shadow i created using Photoshop where i made a copy of the model, put the copy behind the main image and made the opacity very low and then turned the saturation down to 0%. This is something i think i will include in my actual magazine cover, though i may turn the shadow darker to bring the image out of the page more. I am also pleased with the issue number and bar-code as i think it makes the magazine look more professional.

Preliminary Cover

Preliminary Cover
This is my final cover for my preliminary task. Made using Adobe Photoshop and Adobe In Design. Non of the fonts were downloaded they were all the fonts available on the Adobe In Design software.

Preliminary Pictures

Preliminary Pictures
These are pictures i have taken myself with a D40 Nikon for my preliminary cover. They're similar to the types of picture i want for my actual magazine, i want to try out what a medium shot looks like on my preliminary so that i can decide whether to change the shot type for my actual magazine. I had my model George (top and bottom left images) holding a book because i wanted to see how a prop looked in the shot. Even tho it's not the prop i am using, it gave me an idea of what a prop in general would look like.

Questionnaire Results

Questionnaire Results
My results from my questionnaire showed that the most popular music genre is Rock and Heavy Metal. This means that for my music magazine it will be rock themed. This means im going to have to look at rock music magazines such as KERRANG and NME for reference. My article will also have to be appropriate to a rock magazine. However because the results showed a tie between rock and heavy metal (both incredibly similar) i choose to focus on the rock side more as i think the heavy metal genre is represented alot in magazines (KERRANG, NME, Scuzz etc.)and a lighter rock genre would be more successful to corporate into my work.
