Examples of Magazine covers

Examples of Magazine covers
These are some examples of magazine covers that will inspire my magazine cover. the main image in the middle surrounded by text is the kind of image I want to replicate. Mine will be slightly different however because I'm wanting to add a prop to my model and so it will not be directly copied, my model will also have an entirely different pose

Target Audience

Target Audience
My target audience is age ranged 18 - 26, and people of a more common background, it's not meant to be classy or sophisticated. The age range will require stories that are entertaining, interesting, and relevant to the music they listen to. Because of this I will include other bands and musicians so that the magazine applies to multiple fan groups. The bands I will include will have to be rock artists also so that it's all relevant. I will avoid using fancy curved fonts so that my target audience don't see my magazine as too fancy and pretentious. My target audience is both female and male, however as my colours are going to be dark it may be hard to make gender neutral colours so I will have to include articles that apply to females too.

Mood Board

Mood Board
I've screenshot the Rolling Stone Magazine covers and circled the covers that I will use as my inspiration for my magazine cover. They are the covers which are close ups and are looking forward towards the image. This is the type of shot I'll be using for my cover and the type I will focus on. The image won't be copied exactly, I will probably add a prop and zoom out slightly  to fit the prop in and make it my own unique image and not look plagiarized.

Textual Anyalysis Evaluation

Textual Analysis Evaluation

I've looked at multiple front covers on music magazines to see the similarities between them and so I can make mine look as professional and realistic as possible. All the front covers of these magazines contain a large picture of a celebrity with writing around the sides. These are all music magazines. The purpose of having a large image of a well known celebrity is that it catches peoples attention and makes them want to by the magazine because its about someone they want to read about. It's also simplistic, if they had a lot of images scattered all over the page it could make it look cluttered and tacky and less appealing, so having just one image makes it look cleaner and more professional in my opinion. The name of the magazine is always the biggest text on the page, on some however the text is put behind the picture of celebrity. This makes the image stand out more. However even if the text is behind the person its still clear what it says so people know what magazine it is. The name of the magazine is one of the most important things to make clear as it's advertising there own business.
Subheadings surround the main image on the cover, these are small snippets that tell the reader what articles there will be inside. These are usually in bald and in colours that stand out against the background colour ( black, white, red)  so they're just as readable. They're not used to catch the readers eyes as such, more to inform them of the inside content after the main image has caught there eye. I'm going to include the same techniques from these magazines into my project to make it as professional as possible and ensure i meet the success criteria.

Textual Analysis of 2 page spread

Textual Analysis of 2-Page Spread
This is my analysis of my two page spread. I find this cover interesting because the one image is striking enough to be the only one needed in the whole of the 2 pages. One page is entirely dedicated to the text from the interview. This interests me because I will look at how to make an image striking enough to be the only one in the shot.

Textual Analysis of Magazine Cover 2

Textual Analysis of Magazine Cover 2
This is my second Textual Analysis of a magazine cover, this time it's a music magazine similar to the type I am wanting to make. It's typography and layout is also similar to the type of magazine I am wanting to create. The image in the middle is surrounded by small text describing articles inside and the colours stand out powerfully against the background. I also like the use of a prop and will want to use a prop In my magazine because I believe it stands out more when pitted against another magazine.

Textual Analysis of Magazine Cover

Textual Analysis of Magazine Cover
I analysed previous magazine covers to see what features make them stand out and more interesting, and what they need to be successful and published. I have analysed a magazine which is obviously not a music magazine however i think the layout and features are very similar to a music magazine as the purpose of the front cover is to be interesting enough to catch peoples eye and make them want to read whats inside. I will analyse another magazine cover which is of the same genre that I am going to make to make my findings more accurate. However I feel the eye catching colours, the interesting content and the typography is relevant in all magazine covers.

Action Plan

Preliminary Task - Mind Map

Preliminary Task -  Mind Map

I created this mind map to give me an idea of what I'm supposed to do for my magazine print and what I'm supposed to research. It also makes it clear what I need to find out to work towards my final project.
